Managing
Discipline
This program enables delegates to
identify behaviours aligned to disciplinary organisational expectations, communicate
those expectations to their line reports and then manage individuals who do not
act in accordance with those expectations. This course is designed to provide
practical timely reminders to Managers on how to conduct disciplinary hearings
with confidence.
Managing Performance
It
is in the context of managing performance where examples are often found of patience
(i.e. tolerance of poor performance with no formal steps having been taken) followed
by the need for expediency (i.e. the wish to remove the poorly performing employee
out of the business). This often results in compromise exits and a missed opportunity
to support and manage employees properly at an early stage.
The
program enables managers to identify behaviours and factors which can lead to
poor performance. Managers are guided as to how to identify opportunities to intervene
to prevent further deterioration in performance and what steps can be taken at
that stage.
Judgment as to when to take formal action, the process that
needs to be followed and the nature of action taken are the key features of the
course.
Managing Absence
This
program looks at roles and responsibilities involved in managing absence cases.
Delegates will be taken through practical examples of how to manage both short
and long term absences, including how to deal with return to work interviews and
other procedural steps. The course will cover the practical implications of the
Disability Discrimination Act in the management of sickness absence cases.
| | We
consider the importance of early intervention and regular follow up in cases of
long term sickness absence. We look at how failure to intervene early and to follow
up can lead to missed opportunities to manage long term sickness absence cases
through to an early conclusion. We look at the point at which managers are able
to consider taking formal action in cases of short term persistent absenteeism.
Managing
Grievances
This course considers the challenges
presented by complaints raised by employees. The program looks at complaint, counter-complaint
handling and conflict resolution skills. Through worked examples we show how obtaining
evidential material supporting or refuting allegations made by the complainant
can assist in achieving a resolution. The program looks at how to deal with grievances
arising from disciplinary, absence and performance management issues.
Dignity
at Work
This program increases the awareness
of dignity at work issues and encourages managers to reflect and challenge their
own behaviour and that of their employees. It will also help Managers to develop
an understanding of the appropriate and timely management intervention and identify
the consequences of dignity at work infringements.
