Returning to the north I then practiced in house before joining Vista.

I have been practicing in the field of employment law for over 7 years, including many appearances before the employment tribunal.

    I am delighted to be appointed as Vista's non-executive Chairman from 1 January 2012.

    I have over thirty years' experience of HR working at a senior level in private equity, listed and multinational environments for major organisations.




    These include Wellcome, Gould Inc., Schlumberger, and Enterprise Plc. This has given me extensive experience of the full spectrum of HR activity across a number of different business sectors including the pharmaceutical, electronics, manufacturing and infrastructure support services industries.

    A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development I have experienced both Public and Private sector non-executive roles and currently sit as a Council member (NED) of Lancaster University where I am also Chair of the University Health and Safety Committee and a member of the Remuneration Committee.

    I have specialised in employment law and industrial relations for more than 15 years.

    I started my career as an Industrial Relations Adviser and was heavily involved in collective bargaining with trade unions, negotiating pay deals and resolving disputes on behalf of employers. In this and my subsequent role as a Legal Adviser, I gained significant advocacy experience, regularly appearing in employment tribunal.


    Having acquired my Master Degree in Law and consolidated my experience, I was appointed Head of Legal Department at EEF North West where I managed a team of Employment Lawyers before leaving to form Vista.

    I decided to join the team in the Autumn of 2010. Having qualified as barrister I have a strong interest in the litigation side employment law.

    I have now developed a successful track record of advising Vista clients such as Airbus, Vauxhall and many others on a whole range of employment law issues, and representing our clients in the Employment Tribunal.

    I also enjoy delivering a whole range of training workshops for as part of our V learning program.

    Having qualified as a barrister of the Inner Temple in November 2011 I began working with Vista. My role within the team requires me to put into practice the skills and disciplines I obtained during the Bar Course. I currently support Tim Cross in assisting with transactional and legal queries, managing case work and preparing for Tribunal hearings.

    My work at Vista encompasses a vast range of tasks which span all stages of the employment relationship, from drafting bespoke employment contracts, dealing with potential disciplinary issues, assisting managers in conducting fair and effective disciplinary procedures, drafting defences to claims issued against employers, managing case files from inception through to hearing, negotiating settlements and representing our clients at the Employment Tribunal.

    Having joined Vista in 2007 at the commencement of my LL.B studies I am now building on my experience with Vista in supporting Tim Cross and other members of the Vista team.

    My responsibilities vary from case management, which includes preparation of hearing bundles, meeting deadlines set within Tribunal Orders and finalising settlements, to co-ordinating and developing Vista's training portfolio by assisting in the assembly of up to date legal presentations and workshops. I continue to broaden my role in supporting clients (directly and indirectly) through legal research and advice on employment law and related issues.

    I have over 20 years of employment law practice. For over 10 years I have worked in trade union legal services advising members and officials. I completed my law degree and the Legal Practice Course during that time and then qualified as a Solicitor. After leaving trade union legal services I moved into private practice, working for large firms such as Dibbs Lupton and medium sized firms such as Langleys. In 2002 I joined the Engineering Employers Federation in the North West before leaving to form Vista in 2005.

    I started working for Vista in April 2010 as a qualified solicitor. I trained in local law firm in Lancashire and on qualifying as a solicitor in September 2007 began working for a Manchester city centre law firm specialising in Employment law.

    I made the decision to join Vista (as a non-practising solicitor) because the Company offered me the opportunity to continue gaining excellent experience working with high profile clients, such as Culina Logistics, Airbus, Bombardier and Vauxhall advising on a whole range of

    employment law issues, delivering training and representing our clients in the Employment Tribunal.

    Prior to my life as a lawyer I took a year out of Hull University to work for Daimler Chrysler in Stuttgart, Germany and also jumped at the opportunity to work for a law firm in Mexico City for 3 months on completing my degree.

    I joined Vista in January 2012 as Director of Vista Occupational Health & Safety, having been operating as a Health and Safety Manager / Practitioner in excess of 15 years and having been involved in many exciting projects along the way.

    With a background in engineering I have worked in manufacturing for many years both in a production capacity and in design. During the course of my work in manufacturing, as a hobby, I began to study behavioural sciences which led to a secondment into the area of behavioural safety.



    This marked the start of my career in health and safety and I continued to study H&S to post graduate level and soon had responsibility for managing this for a large manufacturing company, later moving on to consultancy and managing a team of professional HSE advisers and trainers.

    I have been with the Vista team for over 5 years at this stage. I continue to enjoy my ever expanding role with the company.

    In November 2011 I became a Barrister of The Middle Temple having graduated from the Manchester Bar Course earlier that year.

    On the Bar Course I came 1st in the year in both Advocacy and Legal Research. Both skills are integral to my role at Vista.

    My work at Vista to date has been predominantly 'litigation based'. Key tasks involve filing defences (ET3's), case management and negotiating settlements. I also attend the Employment Tribunals on behalf of Vista's clients.

    In February this year (2012) I appeared before Mrs Justice Slade in the Employment Appeal Tribunal in discrimination proceedings in a 'pro bono' case. This represents the highlight of my 'legal career' to date.
